Fairness
to Freedom

The Campaign for Universal Representation

The Vera Institute of Justice and the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) have launched a campaign to push for legislation that establishes a universal right to federally funded legal representation for anyone facing deportation who can’t afford it.

Our vision is for all people whose life, liberty, or ties to the community are at risk in the immigration system to have access to high-quality and independent legal representation.

By passing the Fairness to Freedom Act and establishing universal representation, we will not only help bring fairness to our immigration system but also advance a future in which people can fight their deportations with the support of their families and loved ones, free of detention or surveillance.

Rally.
Advocate.
Legislate.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the Vera Institute of Justice and the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) launched Fairness to Freedom: The Campaign for Universal Representation.

Along with more than 200 people who tuned in to our launch event, this coalition of more than 170 civil rights groups, immigrant justice organizations, legal services providers, and government leaders is calling on Congress to pass legislation establishing a universal right to legal representation for everyone in the immigration system who can’t afford it.

Mike Centano

On Tuesday, April 18, the Fairness to Freedom (F2F) Act was introduced by Representatives Norma Torres, Pramila Jayapal, and Grace Meng and Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Cory Booker. F2F will establish the right to representation for all people facing deportation, at government expense for those who can’t afford it, and create an independent nonprofit organization to provide high-quality legal representation to all financially eligible people.

Reach out to your Senators and Representatives to ask them to co-sponsor the Fairness to Freedom Act!
